The summer solstice came and went... days in Juneau have 19 hours of daylight. Beautiful, remarkable daylight; giving energy to explore the wilderness of Alaska. Sunny days show off the Chilkat Mountain range to the west of Juneau and I find myself mesmerized by the white glow of the snow peaks. The nature of Alaska is touching my heart and soul, opening and encouraging the equilibrium of health, spirit and contentedness. Each day I find these refreshed within myself and I am so thankful.
Exploring nature is my new hobby- hiking up Perseverance to be enveloped by mountains, sitting by a creek to watch the ice cold water rush over stones, relaxing on the beach to look off at the distant mountain range, breathing in the crisp air allowing the fresh scents to settle deep into my lungs... Alaska feels so good to me right now.
My wonderful friend, Andrea, and I went up the Perseverance trail a couple of days ago and came upon a small little porcupine. The hours of walking, Andrea and I had exchanged stories of our summer goal, strikingly the same- to take care ourselves and listen to the signals of our bodies and minds. Then a signal from nature introduces itself. The animal spirit of the porcupine symbolizes child-like innocence, wonder, faith, and trust. You can move mountains with these powers.
Yesterday brought to me a hummingbird, a mama bear and cub, and a butterfly. Hummingbirds represent a carefree, loving heart, as well as a reminder to pull our awareness out of the mundane in order to recognize the beauty of life and value the magnificence of Creation. The bears show physical strength and leadership, yet also solitude and self reflection. Butterflies are symbols of creativity and freedom; bringing the gift of soul evolution. Big animal spirit day! So I not only begin to observe the feelings of my body, heart and spirit but also signs that nature is bringing to me so clearly.
I am listening.
